The Sopranos series, Great!

I usually put off watching The Sopranos as there’s a lot of it to get thru but after many suggestions from buddies I chose to commit to it and buy the box set over Xmas as it had been reduced down to £60! After the 1st episode I was hooked. It gets off to a little bit of a slow start but it is a perfect intro to the characters and sets the tone for the remainder of the show.

I was ready to breeze thru series one – five over the Xmas period and start of the year because there was a hell of lots of snow where I live and I was snowed out of work for 2 weeks! I watched such a lot that at night I’d dream that I was Tony Soprano or in any particular situation I’d always think how one of the Sopranos would handle it!

After watching the entire thing in just below a month, after it finished I felt cold and empty that I did not have any more to observe! It’s the most immersive and pressing Television show I’ve ever studied. The dialogue is gritty and practical, you sympathise with many of the characters yet you may be totally troubled by their behaviour infrequently and the soundtrack is ideal! If you are keen on wise guy films and even if you are not I would like to suggest this Television series to you as it does not just handle the lives and petty crimes of mobsters from North Jersey.

It covers their family lives, their inclusion with gigantic business, construction and waste product control as well as the ever developing interpersonal relations as the characters become increasingly complicated.

I would really recommend buying the first series, see how you feel about it and I’m sure you’ll end up with the whole collection.

Star Wars Episodes 4-6 Boxset, Review

I find it hard to find someone who hasn’t watched the whole Star Wars story, but in this review I will talk about the first three, last three to come out. Confused, well the first three released are telling the last part of the story involving Luke Skywalker; these mind blowing adventures in one box set is just to die for.

A new hope…This is just floorless from starting point to end point, groundbreaking CGI effects wonderful journey story and great characters…just satisfied Mr Lucas had the limitations of film making back then which compelled him to be more creative and not surrounding himself with YES men as he does today otherwise would most likely have ended up with the crap of the more fresh chapters of the tale.

The Empire Strikes Back….This is my fave of all of them, a much-needed darker story that has one of the very best revelling twists of them all…superb action with the Millenium Falcon dog fight escape and the final light sabre duel and the coolest personality of all…Bobba Fett.

Return Of The Jedi….this is the weaker of the 3 but still merits a billion star rating (as do the other 2) for its sheer entertainment…people complain about it being like “muppets in space” but the rescue at the beginning, the high speed biker chase thru the forest of Endor, the light sabre duel and last dog fight in space and to see the Death Star demolished from inside definitely make up for those vexing small Carebears in the middle of the film.

If you love Star Wars and don’t own this box set it’s a must buy. On the other hand if my review has tempted you to watch Star Wars then buy it! It’s a great box set, I would recommend buying the box set with Episodes 1 to 3 first though to watch the story unfold, a must buy!

The Blue Planet

Right, if you love nature this is for you, if you love sea life this is for you, I’m a big fan of sharks and love shark documentaries so decided to buy this box set, obviously with the knowledge of knowing David Attenborough is truly a legend.

If you are making an attempt to complete your David Attenborough experience, and have Life Of Birds, Life Of Mammals, Life In The Undergrowth, Life In Cold Blood etc, this is going to be titled Life Undersea. Covering everything from fish, to sea mammals, sea birds and molluscs, The Blue Planet is a classic in wildlife film-making.

It’s a powerful contender for my favourite nature series ever; related by David Attenborough, who never fails to measure up to expectancies, the filming is glorious, the depiction of underwater life is clear and superbly pretty. High points include The Deep, an episode devoted to the depths of the sea floor, the extremely moving segment including a pod of killer whales and a ma humpback and calf, as well a feeding fever which remains a vital moment for nature documentaries to hanker after.

A superb watch, but I would only recommend to people who are a big fan of this type of stuff and watch it on a regular basis, if your not really sure of it, it could be a waste of money, watch one online see what you think then maybe buy the whole thing.
