The Shopflick Filmmakers Marketplace provides a place for filmmakers to find creative, challenging and paying work in their communities. Through the Marketplace, Filmmakers are matched with local merchants, designers, manufacturers and entrepreneurs to create compelling videos about who they are and what they sell. Bring your unique storytelling talents to a new community!

What's Required:

  • You must be able to produce, shoot, interview, direct and edit documentary-style video, work well and reliably with Shopflick sellers, and have a knack for telling engaging stories that sell their products.
  • You must have access to prosumer (high quality consumer level) equipment:
    • 3-CCD video camera (All video should be in SD, NTSC, 4:3)
    • Tripod
    • External microphone (Shotgun, Lavalier)
    • Small Lighting Package
    • Digital Still Camera
    • Headphones
  • Computer with Professional Editing Software:
    • You will need to encode and upload (Quicktime "Broadband High") video files onto the web using an FTP server.
    • You will need to set up a free yousendit.com file delivery account.

The Process:

  • Review the Filmmaker Rate Card and Assignment Form ()
  • Sign Up by registering on Shopflick.com and getting a Shopflick username
  • Apply by filling out the Shopflick Filmmakers Application online (Completely!)
  • Get approved by the Shopflick Team. You will receive a confirmation email inviting you to join the Network.
  • Get Assignments When we find a job opportunity that fits your profile we will e-mail you an Assignment Form with information on the shoot date, time, and location. You may either Accept or Decline this offer.

    If you accept you will be sent an Assignment Confirmation with added information concerning your seller, your FTP site Username and Password, video delivery deadlines, an overview of the shoot, and an SfM Invoice.

    If you Decline you will not receive any further information regarding this particular Assignment. Remember, you must accept an assignment within 48 hours of receiving the Assignment Form or we will assume you have declined.
  • Agree with a Seller to the Contract Form (which keeps to the specifics outlined in the Assignment Form). This document will have all necessary information pertaining to the shoot date and time, video delivery deadlines, Payment specifics, and Standard Terms and Conditions.
  • Prepare for your shoot by reviewing the Assignment Form. Talk with the Seller about their larger goals and intentions. Preparation is key to a successful shoot! Therefore, make sure to contact them about the shoot before it is scheduled. This way you can confirm the date and time, and talk to them about simple things they can do to increase the quality of the videos (e.g. by having the seller in models, preparing their shop, preparing the products to be shot, looking over interview questions, etc) ahead of time.
  • Shoot as per the Standard Agreement and Assignment Form. All video should be in Standard Definition, NTSC, with an Aspect Ratio of 4:3, on a 3 CCD camera. For more information on the style and content of Shopflick videos please reference our SfM Requirements and Guidelines or visit our Blog.
  • Edit videos into Profile and Product Listings per our Shooting and Editing Instructions & Guidelines. Filmmakers are required to do the following in compliance with the SfM Requirements & Guidelines:
    • Upload Rough Cuts.
    • Receive and incorporate the Filmmakers Feedback Form notes into a Final Cut of each video.
    • Upload Final Cuts.
    • Upload Still Photos
    • Note: all cuts and still images must be named using the File Naming Conventions*.
  • Deliver your videos according to the method below.
    • Your Assignment Confirmation will give you all the information you need to successfully deliver video materials.
    • This will include the:
      • 1) FTP Site URL
      • 2) Filmmakers Login name
      • 3) Filmmakers Password
    • Use this information to access your sellers FTP folder. Make sure to use the File Naming Conventions* when uploading videos.
    • Send out a notification email to Shopflick and the Seller with a link to the videos.
    • You will receive an email with a Filmmakers Feedback Form containing editing notes from the Seller and Shopflick within a couple of days.
    • Incorporate this Filmmakers Feedback Form into the videos by making the necessary edits and changes.
    • Final versions require two different forms of delivery:
      • 1) To Shopflick: You must deliver the upload the final versions onto your sellers FTP folder using the same process as outlined above.
      • 2) To Seller: You must deliver all the final videos to your sellers email account using yousendit.com.
    • Once you have delivered the Final Videos to both Shopflick and your Seller you must send a notification email to both parties.
  • Get Paid by the Seller at the completion of these steps. The Filmmaker will send an SfM Invoice to the Seller (cc Shopflick) with all the information necessary to be paid in a timely manner. Payment will be made through a Paypal account that you set up.
